Why is “Healthy Living” important to you?

Healthy living is important to me in many ways. Healthy is not just eating right and exercise, it is also being happy, focusing on positive, and self-love! Living a happy and healthy life is essential and life is too short to live it any other way! Just be the healthiest and happiest you can be every single day!

Who are your “Healthy Living” role models and why?

I really don’t have a particular one; there are so many great role models out there though for sure!

What is your go-to healthy meal when you are short on time?

A Luna bar and piece of fruit, or chobani with granola and almond butter!

Do you have any tips for families who want to make some healthy lifestyle changes?

You have to want to make the change and it doesn’t happen overnight, so just remember that!

Are there any foods that you consider to be off-limits completely?

No, I believe in balance and moderation when it comes to the unhealthy foods like ice cream and sweets!

In addition to eating right, do you have any other tips to share on overall wellness?

Love yourself that is the most important thing you can do to accomplish many things in life!

Cascade Ice Challenge: Success Stories

by Cascade Ice on February 28, 2013

All three of our Cascade Ice participants have successfully completed the Cascade Ice Challenge! They powered through 30 days without soda to improve their overall health and well-being with the help of our zero-calorie sparkling waters.  Our wonderful participants will receive cases of Cascade Ice and a $100 gift certificate to their closest Cascade Ice retailer.

Jennifer Heeth

What kinds of results did you see from the Challenge?

I noticed that my clothes are a bit looser.  I also don’t crave soda like I used to. Drinking soda also amplified my sweet tooth, and now that my sweet tooth cravings have been reduced, I don’t eat as many sugary items!  A total win-win situation.

How did Cascade Ice help you kick soda to the curb?

Cascade Ice helped me kick soda to the curb because it provided a tasty alternative to soda.  I got the fizz and flavor without the calories or sugar.  Plus, it tastes really good!

Now that you are soda free, what steps will you take to make sure you don’t go back to soda?

I will definitely continue to be a consumer of Cascade Ice.  In fact, my whole family drinks them now!  I am glad that we are all taking a better step towards health.  We hardly have any soda in the house anymore.  Now, when I go out to eat, I will order water or tea instead of soda.  I just don’t crave it anymore.

Ryan Workman

What kinds of results did you see from the Challenge?

I feel more awake and I no longer feel sluggish or have a dry mouth.

How did Cascade Ice help you kick soda to the curb?

Cascade Ice helped me kick soda out of my diet because it is refreshing and smooth with just the right sweetness that leaves me satisfied.  It also looks inviting to be able to see the bottle’s bright colors compared to the dark color from soda.

Now that you are soda free, what steps will you take to make sure you don’t go back to soda?

I’m going to stick to Cascade Ice waters and also keep my fridge clean and clear of all soda products. It was a bad habit and now I’ve picked up a good one in replace it!

Shannon Ramiro

What kinds of results did you see from the Challenge?

I feel lighter and my clothes are fitting better. My head feels clearer and I don’t seem to experience periods of feeling sluggish like I would after drinking soda.

How did Cascade Ice help you kick soda to the curb?

The taste of Cascade Ice along with the carbonation is similar enough to feel like I am satisfying a craving for something to drink besides unflavored water.

What was your biggest take-away from the CI Challenge?

The first couple of weeks were hard. After giving soda up it’s easier to see soda as addicting in a way. Once you have some you want more. Cascade Ice isn’t that way. I can enjoy the flavor but I didn’t find myself feeling like I wanted to go drink more right away. One bottle could last me several hours and often a whole day!

We wish the very best for our participants and hope they continue to purse a healthier lifestyle!

Kickin’ It With SHAPE Magazine’s Karen Borsari

by Cascade Ice on February 21, 2013

Cascade Ice is excited to post the first interview in our brand new series, Kickin’ It with Cascade Ice! We’ll be interviewing notable healthy living advocates around the country to get their best tips and tricks, and post them here for all to benefit.

For our first post in the series, we are lucky enough to hear from Karen Borsari, an editor at SHAPE Magazine! Karen shared some fabulous advice and great meal tips to encourage Cascade Ice fans to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Read below to hear more from Karen!

Why is “Healthy Living” important to you?

How could it not be? I want to get the most out of life and I know I need to take care of myself in order to do so. I never want to miss an opportunity because I don’t feel well, am too tired, or not physically capable.

Who are your “Healthy Living” role models and why?

My coworkers! It’s awesome to be surrounded by like-minded people. Every day I’m inspired by the healthy home cooked meals I see, the women who hit the gym on lunch break, and the proudly displayed medals from last weekend’s race. We do group fitness classes after work instead of happy hour from time to time and it’s wonderful to realize that fitness is fun and grabbing drinks isn’t the only way to socialize.

What is your go-to healthy meal when you are short on time?

Every morning I have PB & J oatmeal because I can make it in minutes when I get to work and it truly keeps me full until lunch. I put half of a cup of old fashioned oats with a sprinkle of salt in a microwave safe bowl and heat for a minute or two, then stir in two tablespoons of peanut butter. I’ll top the mixture with half of a sliced banana, dried cherries or a tablespoon of real fruit preserves.

Stuffed baked potato. I make this on nights I get home late. I’ve even shown up in the office with an unbaked potato when I don’t have time to pack a lunch. All I do is wash and prick a potato and pop it in the microwave for about five minutes. While that’s heating, I look to see what’s in the fridge. Leftover chili? Throw it in the potato. Sausage and peppers? Dice it up and throw it in the potato. Chicken breast and broccoli? Shred the chicken, chop the broccoli, and throw it in!

When I don’t have leftovers, frozen veggies, a can of beans, salsa, and Greek yogurt all make good toppers in any combination. Potato + veggie + protein = a quick, healthy, well-balanced, portion-controlled meal.

Do you have any tips for families who want to make some healthy lifestyle changes?

I don’t have a family so I hesitate to give advice here but I would say be sure to sit at the dinner table and take your meals together—TV off. Most people don’t realize what a wonderful and healthy opportunity it is—not just for the body but for your relationships as well.

Are there any foods that you consider to be off-limits completely?

I don’t have any foods that are off limits but there are a few I know I can’t be trusted with alone. I never snack on cashews when I’m home alone because I know I will finish the whole container but I always indulge if they’re served at a party! I love putting them on salad or enjoying in dishes like cashew chicken.

In addition to eating right, do you have any other tips to share on overall wellness?

Also, I program my favorite gym classes into my phone so I almost never miss a workout—but not to the detriment of my social life! At the beginning of the week, I see if there are any conflicts with my social calendar and reschedule those workouts for the morning or at lunchtime. Or maybe it becomes my rest day. I schedule those too!
