Hold Onto Summer Year-Round with Lemon-Themed Recipes

by Cascade Ice on August 29, 2013

Labor Day is around the corner and we will soon be trading our water slides and white sandals for cozy sweaters and fall activities. But you can still hold onto the last rays of summer sunshine with Cascade Ice’s lemon-themed recipes, perfect year-round.

Traditional Strawberry Lemonade

You can never go wrong with the traditional Strawberry Lemonade. Pour 8oz Strawberry Lemonade Cascade Ice into an ice filled glass. Slice 3-4 fresh strawberries and 1 small lemon and add to your glass. Stir with a straw to evenly disperse the natural flavors from the fresh fruit.

Pink Grapefruit Lemonade

For a unique and crowd pleasing lemonade, whip up the Pink Grapefruit Lemonade. Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour 8oz of Pink Grapefruit Cascade Ice over the ice. Take a small fresh lemon and cut it in half. Squeeze the lemon juice from one ½ lemon into your glass and make sure to strain the lemon seeds. Add a couple slices of fresh lemon to compete the drink.

Lemon Drop Twist

The Lemon Drop Twist recipe is a spin off the Cascade Ice Lemon Drop recipe. The Lemon Drop Twist uses Lemonade Cascade Ice rather than the Lemon Drop Mixer Cascade Ice. Add 8oz Lemonade Cascade Ice Water, 2oz vodka and 1oz Amaretto to a martini mixer. Shake gently, pour over ice and garnish with a lemon slice and cinnamon stick.

Kickin’ It With Lifestyle Blogger Courtney Solstad

by Cascade Ice on August 22, 2013

We are “Kickin’ It” with lifestyle blogger Courtney Solstad this week. Courtney’s My Crazy Savings blog shares tips on how to save money and find the best deal on products. Keep reading to hear what Courtney has to say about healthy living!

Why is “Healthy Living” important to you?

I want to make memories and I want to live to see my babies have babies. Staying healthy and fit gives me the opportunity to make these memories!

Who are your “Healthy Living” role models and why?

Fitness trainer Chris Powell is my healthy living role model. I love how he teaches and empowers people to eat right and exercise… no pills, shakes, etc!

What is your go-to healthy meal when you are short on time?

My go-to easy meal is a spinach and egg omelet. I top it with Ms. Dash Chipotle seasoning… YUMMY!

Do you have any tips for families who want to make some healthy lifestyle changes?

Stop eating out! Even if you order a salad, it’s loaded with hidden fats and tons of sodium. I also believe less is more. The fewer ingredients you use, the better. Raw veggies are more healthy than cooked vegetables! And, stop using boxed items because fresh is best!

Are there any foods that you consider to be off-limits completely?

No, I think you can enjoy anything in moderation!

In addition to eating right, do you have any other tips to share on overall wellness?

Your calorie burn has to exceed your caloric intake to lose weight. So get active. Challenge yourself to push a little harder each time you exercise. Exercise a certain muscle group every week and be consistent with your exercise. Take time for YOU, you deserve it!

What is your favorite Cascade Ice flavor and why?

Organic Mixed Berry Cascade Ice is my favorite! It has a light berry flavor that adds interest to drinking water. And it’s calorie-free!

Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, huckleberries….there are so many different types of berries. Strawberry Guava Smoothie

Start your morning off with a Strawberry Guava Smoothie. Add 1 cup of strawberries and ½ cup of guava nectar to a blender. Add ¾ cups of Greek yogurt, 2oz of Ice cubes and 4oz of Strawberry Guava Cascade Ice. Blend until smooth. Garnish with a sliced strawberry and serve.

Berrylicious Blend

Add two fruit servings to a light lunch with the Berrylicious Blend. Throw your favorite fresh berries into a large glass. Slightly smush the berries with a fork releasing the delicious juices. Pour the Wild Berry Cascade Ice over the berries. Throw in some ice cubes and top with a handful of fresh berries. Enjoy!

Pomberrytini

Class up your evening with the Pomberrytini. Pour 8 ounces of the Cranberry Pomegranate Cascade Ice, 2oz of citrus vodka and 2oz berry schnapps into a large cocktail shaker. Add a splash of lemon juice and mix well. Pour Pomberrytini in two cocktail glasses. String fresh pomegranates on a toothpick and lay garnish over the glass. Beautiful and easy evening cocktail!

Whether you make the Strawberry Guava Smoothie for your kids, enjoy a light and refreshing mid-day break with the Berrylicious Blend or spend the evening relaxing with the Pomberrytini, you can reap the benefits of berries in the form of a tasty Cascade Ice recipe. Have a berry-filled day!

Founder of The Dallas Socials

Why is “healthy living” important to you?

Many people don’t realize the importance of healthy living. Healthy living is essential to maintaining long-term health and living a full life with no restrictions.

Who are your “healthy living” role models and why?

I’m not big into following or idolizing people who are famous. If I were to chose any role models, I would chose the working mom who is implementing a healthy lifestyle into her family’s lives and the father who teaches his kids the importance of working out. It would be the every day person who makes the time and effort to stay healthy, regardless of what is going on his or her live.

What is your go-to healthy meal when you are short on time?

Steamed brussel sprouts and salad are so simple but very healthy and nutritious! I love this combination because it can be made within minutes.

Do you have any tips for families who want to make some healthy lifestyle changes?

Start slowly so you don’t burn yourself out from eating overly healthy in the beginning. Make small changes in your diet and your daily habits to make a healthy lifestyle change.

Are there any foods that you consider to be off-limits completely?

No! One bad meal won’t make you fat, just like one healthy meal won’t make you skinny. I don’t believe in completely restricting yourself from any food. You have to be smart about your choices.

In addition to eating right, do you have any other tips to share on overall wellness?

Healthy living is a combination of eating right, working out, getting enough sleep, etc. It truly is a lifestyle and many components play a role. Don’t let one bad day of eating or stress get you down. Healthy living isn’t always easy, so don’t give up!
